super connected cities
X2 Communications is an approved supplier of the Government’s Super Connected Cities programme. The Government in 2011 set aside £100 million for an Urban Broadband Fund (UBF) to create up to ten SuperConnected Cities across the UK. This was followed in 2012 by more funding of up to £50 million for a second wave of cities to benefit from this programme.
Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) is the part of Department for Culture, Media and Sport responsible for the UBF and the SuperConnected Cities programme (SCCP). It aims to support economic growth and jobs across the UK by giving people the ability to access high-grade broadband and wireless connectivity, and to stimulate the market to go further and at a faster pace than it would otherwise have done. This investment in the UK’s future will help secure a stronger economy and make us more competitive in the global market.
The 22 SuperConnected Cities in the programme are: Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bradford, Brighton and Hove, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Coventry, Derby, Derry/Londonderry, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Newport, Oxford, Perth, Portsmouth, Salford, York.
The scheme is open until March 2015 – but don’t delay, vouchers are available on a first come, first served basis.
Successful applicants will receive a grant of between £200.00 and £3000.00
